habitat Under mounting criticism for using topical hash tags to boost their tweet circulation, on 24th June 09, Habitat stopped posting. Suddenly, yesterday, tweets started-up again.

An apology was followed by an acknowledgement of past mistakes “This time we want to get it right”  and sensibly their tweeter wouldn’t be drawn on information about the mysterious intern who was blamed for the original micro-blogging misdemeanor. More »

60% of B2B marketers ‘looking at’ social media

bryanferryThe Internet Advertising Bureau has just announced findings from its joint survey with B2B magazine of 140 UK B2B marketers.

They show that online marketing is being used predominently for sales and lead generation with email, SEO, PPC and display the most popular activities.

No mention of social media being used though with marketers saying they are ‘looking at it’ but lacking information on how it can be used. The overall picture seems to be that marketers are sticking to what they know online whilst waiting for more evidence on how social media and branding can benefit them. More »

Debenhams Twitter sale now on

debenhamsAs I write there’s a strange scene unfolding in Debenhams, Oxford St. Several of the staff are glued to smart phones advising customers, also supposedly glued to smartphones, by way of Twitter.

It’s been a while since I was in Debenhams but from what I can remember, the basement men’s department is a labyrinth so on that basis alone, this is a welcome development.

Whether my phone would work in the basement or if they’d be able to help with my typical request ’do you have this shirt in XL’ without being able to see me or the shirt remains uncertain.  More »

Only 15% of top etailers have a blog

Took a spin around the online pr news world this morning to see who’s writing what and actually there’s not much to find. There’s Katy Howell tweeting about “72% of people go online just to become part of a community”, a blog in ‘Search Engine Land’ about how important user generated content is to  organic search and some cool, albeit quite techy stuff on Yoast about a blog analytics plugin from MailChimp.
