Content is king

Took a spin around the online pr news world this morning to see who’s writing what and actually there’s not much to find. There’s Katy Howell tweeting about “72% of people go online just to become part of a community”, a blog in ‘Search Engine Land’ about how important user generated content is to  organic search and some cool, albeit quite techy stuff on Yoast about a blog analytics plugin from MailChimp.

Eventually I thought I’d found something quite good called ‘Online PR being revolutionised by Twitter’ on ClickThrough’s blog (these guys are seriously optimised) and on further reading found it was quoting a certain Ross Furlong who’d been interviewed in The Wharf recently about how blogs were a good way to boost organic SEO. ClickThrough then link, not to my site, but to a page of their own on how to do this. Fair play, I take my hat off to you.

So there’s a lot of recycling of quite scarce information out there – and not only in the field of online PR. There’s a massive opportunity for companies in every field to grab a big share of the online voice at this nascent time if they’re prepared to invest in blogs and other online content.  Add in a social media dimension and you’re off and running.
